Joy Roskilly,

Bsc(Hons) Psychology, Dip HSW, DHP(NC)

Psychotherapy helps to work through problems at a deeper level, which may require longer term therapy. It can help find inner strength and more successful coping strategies by providing insight into unhelpful behaviour patterns. Psychotherapy enables people to master their psychological problems by helping them to understand the causes through discussion, analysis and teaching. Although it is not an essential part of the process, hypnosis can also be very helpful in speeding-up the progress of psychotherapy.

Part of the purpose of hypnotherapy is to help clients understand their own reactions, so that they may be more in control of their own lives by drawing attention to the importance of their inner feelings, and their body’s own natural healing capability. This demands a high degree of willing and active co-operation on the part of the client, and hypnosis should not be regarded as a 'magic-wand' treatment by those looking for an easy solution to their problems. Anyone coming for a physical complaint should consult their doctor about it first. Hypnotherapy should not be regarded as an alternative to conventional medicine, but rather as an aid or supplement to it.

Daytime, evening and weekend appointments are available at the Marazion Practice.

Appointments are available for individuals, couples and families.
